Top Pavis

Nothing says welcome to expo 2010 more than the Chinese Pavillion. Could be seen from most places around the site, shows you how big-ass its built. And how many Chinamen they needed to build it.

Corporate bodies also took part in the Expo, and most of their pavilions are built on the other side of the site, away from the country pavillions. Smart usage of scaffolding were used as an exterior shell which houses the spaces within.

The Serbian Pavillion is sandwiched between most of the European powerhouses, but the colourful and playful exterior makes it stick out like a sore thumb, in a good way, that is.

Designed by Sir Norman Foster, the UAE Pavillion resembles the sand dunes of the Arabic desert. Plated with dark gold plates, the exterior is freaking reflective and blinding in the glaring sunlight.

The Polish Pavillion boasts a facade which resembles the traditional Polish papercutting art. Very interesting to see at night, during which purple neons shine from within.

The South Korean Pavillion is probably Asia's best contender in this expo. Made up of symbols, symbols, and more symbols. The symbols eventually form a BIGGER SYMBOL by themselves, making up the whole structure that way.

The French Pavillion is all things french: Proud, elegant, neat, even snobbish at times. Prettiest facade arguably for me.

The Danish Pavillion. Almost resembles a Danish pastry to me, minus the holes. You get to cycle up and down the lanes provided inside the pavillion. Wicked. To imagine it as a self-supporting structure is mind-blowing.

Yeap the Spanish Pavilion. Screw the Spanish, they are like, owning every other nation. Made from rattan with multiple shades and patterns, creating an incredibly, almost unreal wavy structure.

Doing more reading out of total boredom. And mostly because my vocab is totally going down the drain. Neil Gaiman is my pick of poison, and probably he's the only author i read from nowadays.

This one's good. The most bizarre, weirdest stuff happens. Plenty of sex, more than I imagined, more than i asked for.

This one's darker, more sombre, less erotic, less interesting. Not done with it.

Just finished 2 stories from this, harder to fathom. A LOT harder.

And oh, did i mention that i took part in a battle of the bands competition recently? We got totaled by the professional full-timers though (read: old, 30-40-year-old tards.)

So what's new for you guys? Sadly for me my life has been this routine-esque walk so far this year. So dreadful. So i planned this planner to brighten my day up

July:
KLUE Urbanscapes 2010, Shanghai Expo trip, MTV worldstage, return to Redang, Backpack trip across msia, laundry to go watch diandra, countless starlight and rhasta trips, more world cup mania.

August:Slash concert, ermmm.... sem 2 starts? bummer.

One thing that got me bothered all this while is the line-up for MTV world stage this year: Katy perry, tokio hotel, wondergirls?? oh shyt, i probably like one of them acts only. And that's only if she DOES show some leg this time around. Remember poor Pixie Lott last year? Looks like some Disney Princess who'd look better of with a veil altogether.

Last year's line-up was, to say the least, godlike. Hoobastank, AAR, Kasabian, BLG, just hearing of the line-up tells you that the adrenaline was there. Well all hopes lie on Bunkface this year as the only real band performing, tokio who?

Its been a grueling 2 weeks. or more. I dont really recall.

And ever since i got this weird new addiction to this god-forsaken elixir which helped me bear through it all- canned coffee. In the middle of the night I'd downed 3 cans of this 1.80 drink to finish a single piece of work. God knows how many i downed throughout this fortnight.

All you need to do is pop in some $$ into the 24-hour operating vending machine and you get this ice cold, menthol-filled caffeine drink. I swear they added mint into it. And maybe more, even.

I dont get why I'm crapping about this drink, but you know, I really should. It deserves as much credit as I do for finishing work on a '1-day-before-deadline' basis. I mean, who else procrastinates but still does a fantastic job doing it? huhuhuhu.

I realized I have been blogging for a full year now. So I opened up my archives and went to the very first posts I have written. Total BS.

I read through all the fun stuff I written, all the pictures taken, and all the emo posts spilt. I guess that sums up why I'm blogging, and how I had the patience to have done it an entire year. The reason is that I love sharing everything (except food).

And somehow, I cant rest easy, only once I've written. If I wasn't drawing plans and model-making I would be writing the next Twilight series. And I would have killed off Edward in the 5th book. Malaysia is a boiling pot of talent. Muscial talent to be specific. Its a wonder why we are still so way far behind the others in terms of muscial achievements.

Yesterday the band and I auditioned for a Sunway College event. Everything was pretty last minute, from the jamming session to the audition times. Got really pissed off waiting with the other hopeful auditionees in the lecture theatres that we went straight to the MPH to check out our competition.

Boy. What a way to smash our self-esteem.

The dudes were incredible. Very tight bands, very cohesive and organized, and mostly spearheaded by really good frontmen. Some singer/songwriters performed solo acts bearing a classic Mraz-like vibe. Some bands improvised mainstream music such as Kesha's Tik Tok into awesome rock melodies. There were also dance troupes, lock, pop, break, you name it. Salute. Brilliant array of talent.

Though there were others who didn't fare well. I remembered of a guitarist who struggled with the solo of the Orianthi song, According to You. Really embarrassing stuff. I almost felt bad for him, until I remembered he was our competition.

We performed Cake's take on I Will Survive, the Gloria Gaynor classic. Everything was okay until we lost the guitar tuner. And whilst onstage, our lead had his guitar strap snap. Though, performance-wise, what we did was suffice. At least, I hope.

Results be out on the 11th. Till then, assignments will keep me in zombie mode long enough.

Valentines Day has been a festivity that never fails to elude me every year. I dont know if its mere coincidence or pure bad luck that I never seem to be together with someone every Feb the 14th. I'm thinking neither, my conclusion is that Cupid don't aim arrows on overly-hot guys.

But when it comes down to it, I wouldn't know how to impress a girl on Valentines anyway. I'm not a choc and roses guy. I would play you a song and fail miserably with all the broken chords and keys. I would bring you out to some movie date and realise that I only have enough money to buy tickets for myself. And most probably end the date by bringing you McD's at around 1-3 for a really cheap lunch. Yeah, I won't date me. Hahaha.

Traineeship ends tomorrow, but I will just post this because will be back at friggin Kelantan for CNY. Its tradition homie.

To sum it up, I'm really glad i took the initiative to go for this job. Heck, a bum like me had never taken initiatives all my life, cept the times I volunteered to ask for class breaks (if that was ever considered one) I guess thats an improvement.

I really learnt tons. Everyone was cool, cept for some really stressed-out architects and designers who cannot seem to meet their bosses' critierias. I can see how not easy of a path this is. Deadlines here are not like the ones in college. There's no "eh eh Puan Yati, 5 more mins pls i finishing liao" shit.

And the reply wont be a "Ok I'll give you time, send your work to me by the end of the day okay?" Instead it will sound more like this, " Please be prepared to tender for your resignation letter by tomorrow, you are being dismissed of your services."

Hah college makes me laugh when i think of it. El loco cisco.

But it never helps to be a pussy and whine on what you've chosen. I've taken this up and I will finish it. And not just for the sake of finishing it, because that will be noobish.

Speaking of college, I recognised the importance of being able to value your education. Valuing education??? I dont sound me for a second there.

But really, especially after my first year in college, was when I found out how much better my secondary school years were in terms of quality education compared to college. And college is paid for.

No shit. Dissapointed with the quality of education taylors even dared to put out. Maybe because they are aware of their already-prominent recognition among Msian students so they are confident that students will still enroll for their courses, whether the FNBE is happy or not.Maybe they think they've got thousands of preU students so they wont mind losing 60 foundies anyway.

Anyway signing off to an Angpau-collecting, poker-winning, alcohol-guzzling, fireworks-filled Chinese New Year. Oh and plenty of taking pictures too.

Went for Singapore Big Night out last week. Obviously went there for Muse. And boy, they did not dissapoint. The crowd got high before the band even made their entrance, already hyped up by the opening acts, which although were sublime, would later pale in comparison by Muse's arrival. And so they took the stage. Chris, Dominic and Matthew. The crowd went bananas.

The boys started their assault on the crowd with Uprising, the first single from their latest album, and threw the crowd into a fist-pumping, anthem-singing crue. Bellamy himself seemed almost dictator-like, manipulating the highs and lows of every key unison with the crowd. The next song, Supermassive Black Hole further sent the crowd into a new stage of euphoric frenzy. The catchy riffs literally burst the stadium into flames when unleashed by the enigmatic Bellamy. Belammy utilised the scratch pad customly made into his guitar to full effect, displaying multiple crazy, almost unearthly sounds which possibly never had been imagined existed nor heard.

Chris Wolstenholme, the band's bassist contributed to the backing vocals, as well as showing off some trademark bass techniques such as the usage of synth and distortion on his bass guitar, a Muse special. He was unevitably eclipsed by the stage presence of Bellamy, though he shared some of the best moments when he broke into the popular bass riffs in songs such as Hysteria and Time is Running Out. Dominic, the band's drummer was the backbone of the band. His steady beats and composure behind the drum set was hidden under his enthusiastic yet quirky playing style which proved vital song after song for Muse.

Muse played plenty of songs from their newest album, The Resistance, while treated to the crowd some of their old classics which shot them into the international stage. And when all the head banging was thought to have ended, the band delivered a three-song encore which pushed the crowd beyond their already-climatic state. The whole experience once again raised the bar for the band cited as the 'best live rock act' ever, and this level of performance certainly proves so.

That's how my review will be IF I went... No, i didnt go la. Just wanted to write some cock. HAHAHH

Well i tried to sleep an hour earlier than my normal sleeping time yesterday. Because my boss is sick of all my yawning in the office. More like, i forced myself to sleep early. It was New Year's Eve. When a friend told me that The Rev has just passed away, I couldn't believe him. I went home that day near dawn, around 4 in the morning on the first day of 2010. A simple google on "Richard 'the Rev' Sullivan" confirms it. I ended up staying awake for 2 more hours until the sun rose. Happy 2010.

It was just 2 days ago, I could recall, myself playing Avenged songs during a band jamming session. We did covers and played their incredible guitar solos, which defintely weren't up to par. Afterlife, Gunslinger and Unholy Confessions were our favourites, and their music has definitely left an impact in our lives. Now their music will never sound the same again.

When i found out Avatar cost 200 million to produce, I was like 'I'm really going to catch this one". But as time goes by, i went 'WTF man'

What is wrong with James Cameron. Yes, Titanic earned him 1.8 billion or so twelve years ago. So it wouldn't be wrong to spam a fraction of that money on another movie right? Take 200 mil for a fraction. He's all the way bonkeroflolcopters.

You might say its a expression of 'film directing at its epitome', or an 'epic production that can change the world of film-making'. Sure, there's nothing wrong about spending in the name of art, or to share a masterpiece of 12 years to the whole world. But that's not how you spend money. The way he spends it is no different than how the oil kings over at dubai splurge over their multi-billion dollar buildings.

I'm no humanitarian, and I don't think i will ever fit the part in my life, but think, James, of what else you can do with that money. Try and save some lives, while your old life is still worth it.

Pigeons Part 2

The song played, distortion-laden, accompanied by enigmatic, falsetto vocals. Afternoon passed slowly. And Hedwig was making itself well at home.

Harry drifted to every inch of his house. His house in which he had put in all his savings to get errected. And as mentioned, he did not give a fuck about money. Not at all. Money didn't spin his world round, Ginny did.

The second verse hit, "I thought i was a fool for no one, oooh baby i'm a fool for you.."

He laid spread-eagled on the cold marble floor and waved his limbs as if a snow-angel, and realized not being chilled by the cold, as he was ice cold himself. He dropped a picture frame of their picture together, with shattering glass that gashed him deep. Expecting to be cut, only to find that he was harder than glass himself. He shrugged.

He pressed ink to paper, only to realize where he should address the letter to. To Paradise Falls? Absurd. He slipped the pen into its sheath. He shrugged, again.

And Harry went into slumber.

"You're the queen of the superficial, how long before you tell the truth?"

Harry followed the cool voice, which led him to an old cupboard he forgot existed. A bone of a woman sat silently inside. Harry knew his love too well to not know who the frame of calcium belonged to. He shrieked.

Hyperventilating, he woke up, It was dead midnight

And he shuffled to the old cupboard. No Ginny. He was quite relieved. Though, he had found a draft of his last letter he wrote to Ginny in it. Seamless. Beautifully written. Almost, (pardon me), orgasmic.

He felt lost for a moment. It was then when he heard a burst. A burst of white. Hedwig was gone from the cage he was locked in.

And the song was played no more.

Translusent feathers which glowed in the darkness gave Hedwig away. Harry was led to the old cupboard he saw in his dreams. The trail of feathers ended there, and he swung the doors open.

Another burst of feathers filled the space, and in the cupboard he found no bird. He found a girl. Bare. She was looking exhausted.

He couldn't help himself, nor his eyes. Her curves just appealed to him too much. The suppleness and perkiness of mounds. Porcelain of skins and pretty strands of blond hair. Testosterone-filled, Harry felt as if puberty hit him again. As he felt guilt rush to his head.

The shape shifter greeted her master. Luna was sent down by the Gods themselves, to personally attend to Harry's distress. She could help him find Ginny back.

Harry's ear rang and felt his heart miss a beat. Suddenly Harry could feel Ginny, as beautiful as she was, parading in front of his wet eyes. He couldn't wait, neither could Luna.

Luna pressed her fingers to Harry ice cold chest, not at all suprise by his cold, as she was as cold herself, maybe even colder. She traced his racing heart. Guilt hit Harry again.

Time was too scarce. She's been waiting a lifetime to serve his master. They would go, right away, that night itself.

Pigeons Part 1

A man was selling pigeons down the lane.

You could see one of the plump birds ten blocks away. Pure, virgin white, fat and juicy. The fluttering sounds of their oversized wings woke Harry up.

Harry went for a walk. He was gruff and used, looking more like a heap of decaying flesh hanging on a frame of calcium than one of fresh meat. He had ragged clothes and torn shoes.

He came to the middle-aged pigeon salesman. The salesman was prompt in making his offer. Harry made a face, as if he was giving it a thought. Six pence per bird. Then he agreed. His previous pigeon had not return. And he had given up hope on it returning.

Harry was not homeless, instead he was an owner of a rather tastefully architectured recidency settling down the very lane they stood at. He was its architect. The house cost him a fortune, but during those days, Harry did not give a fuck.

A crowd ushered in. People came, young and old, white and black alike, wallets ready, each making their pick a wit faster than poor Harry. Seems like everyone has letters to be sent. Everyone made their purchase swift, then as swiftly, they left. It was as if they did not notice Harry's presence or his stench.

And then all that's left is one. Skinny and ruffled and messed up. Very Harry-like. I will call you Hedwig, Harry finally spoke, as he paid for his pigeon.

Its weak eyes flickered in atonishment at its new owner.

The park was empty. Harry and Hedwig shared a park bench and a tomato sandwich. It was when the man lifted his pupils into the vast, vanilla skies, that he thought of Ginny. Ginny was his love. She was love.

And she was the cause of all his misery.

He would be reminded of a story Ginny always told to him. It was about an old man who had fixed tens of leaf blowers underneath the house he and his late wife has built, and he would fly the house of into the sky, to Paradise Falls or wherever he vowed to bring his wife to, whilst she was still alive.

However Ginny never did finish the story, she left it untold, whether he had reached Paradise Falls, Harry was not told. She would finish it, only under one condition: make her his, which never happened. A hole burnt through Harry's fragile heart at the thought.

The moment she left him, he slept. For two weeks. He knew by sleeping he would not look at the bright sky which reminded him of her, and he would not be hurt. It was until the sound of fluttering pigeon wings that had woke him up.

But maybe that was too long a time for one to be asleep.

He went home as more people gathered at the park. He wasn't in the mood for fun. Plus no one noticed his presence there anyway. He made Hedwig clutch to his shoulder and they went home.

Of CPUs, Crayons and Neil

Everyone's doing their work on the computer now. Its seems to be Photoshop, SketchUp, or 'nothing'. I fall in the third category, in definition, 'hands'. Yup, I've drew and sketched my way through this semester. Happy.

But here i am, thinking hard of what medium i should use for my poster. Crayons or watercolour. While everyone is happily photoshopping away.

Guess, I'm not all tech-savvy. OLD. Very much untroubled by change, and resisting it.

Sure, i have facebook, msn and twitter, but the tweet bird seems long dead. And i'm not a fan of Skype. I do have a blog though.

I dont download movies due to bad connection to the WWW; one OTH episode makes me grow a beard. But i do download music. Nope, i dont have iTunes and i dont even want to know how it works, maybe only until i get my hands on some Apple-related hardware. Drool.

Music is certainly something i dont keep old and outdated. Sure i'm an oldies fan but then i would be a contemporary hardcore. I would prefer the Artic Monkeys to Pink Floyd anyday on a boring train trip, and a Neil Gaiman. Boy, he writes good.

And, i can't wait to see you again.

Everything's going back to its roots now, i find life so much easier nowadays. Not to say studies and people are easy to manage, i'm BAD at managing stuff. You just live through it without knowing when or how you can get over it.

Studies-wise, I never doubted that i'm in the wrong field, this is the field i want to pursuit definitely, its the course that i've chosen that has rifled me since day 1 of college. Yes, my foundation course? I cant find any more superlatives ( or expletives ) to describe this course anymore, I'm getting sick of it. God bless the people are awesome, even those who left, they were awesome as well.

People, they're much different than handling studies. College breathes no life on its own, but people are much complex.You dont really know what they may think, what they will do next.

Do they think how you want them to think?

Or are they actually thinking something else than what you want them to think?

that is what happened to me, just wanna apologise to john for spreading your 'rempitnator' term everywhere... i just did not know my blog was so popular that so many people read it and made fun of you....

let me tell you the story of the ampang legend,

teh REMPITNATOR

He was a boy who always liked to run away from home, always wore pants that made him look like he was going to join the Olympic Games, therefore some people referred to him as 'Mr OLIMPIK'

Mr Olimpik likes to play basketball, which he is not really good at, but his heart is actually set on football, which he is ALSO NOT good at... and everytime he plays these sports he will wear the same olympic pants... his fashion style is to wear a football jersey and his olympic pants

Mr Olimpik is quite tall, and his face makes people very fightened of him. Together with his teeth that has a hole in the middle, which can be seen whenever he smiles. He is fat, but he will never admit it, he will say its his 'muscles' that make him heavy (100+ kg)

he likes to scold other people's mothers, and likes to aim someone who is also from TSUN JIN

So why did he became teh REMPITNATOR? this is what happened

One night, late night, he went to a park bench to study for his SPM biology, in a park which is known for its REMPITS

So when he was studying his reproduction chapter happily, two rempits riding bikes approached him

they asked him rudely: "mana kawan awak, yang cina tu", the rempits were actually mentioning us

so he replied very calmly:" mereka tak datang"

Sensing danger, he turned into rempitnator mode, scolding the rempits:" APA?! APA?!", at the same time, showing them his fierce, scary face

the rempits were clearly afraid by the rempitnator mode, the face and size of him made them even more frightened

the rempits, who were already shaking in fear, said:"kau muka baik, saya tak nak buli kau!"

and they left him alone, riding on their motorbikes

so the legend of rempitnator lives on in all ampang people's hearts, his ability to scare away two rempits will always be remebered by everyone

Cheer 09!

you might wonder what may i know about cheerleading other than cheerleaders in skimpy short skirts, but hey, at least i know whats a cartwheel ok? =)

so i went to cheer on a sunday after a hectic morning of tennis and basketball, which i admit i am getting more and more rusty in =(

i realised how POPULAR cheer is, especially to the malays, there were so many malay teens on the train on the way to bukit jalil, reached there bout 1 or so

the first thing i heard when i came in was "thriller" and then billie jean ... sigh... its getting annoying

a sea of supporters, their different colours represent different schools, all over msia

i watched so many cheerleading girls getting thrown up high into the air that it seemed like nothing to me anymore.... =D

sat at the SBU crowd area, and i tell you i regretted it because:

dumb SBU malay rempits + excessive school spirit = deaf ears

CBN's xavier! my fav, crowd fav also, just didnt win anything in the end...

So there were lotsa side events which took place to 'procrastinate' the prize-giving ceremony (typical malaysia la), tye hill and santwon, the american judges, did some routines that looked so 'adam lambert' (read: gay)

and then the results were out, with BU4's blitzerz upsetting current champs SBU ( thats what you get for shouting in my ear)

to a certain someone: falcons did not win anything.... after cheer i know where you get your personality from...=P

damn, kickapoo taste sooo good after cheering

oh did i forget to mention the local bands performing after cheer? One buck short and deja voodoo spells totally rocked man, malaysia bolehh..

jen u shud have came to watch the drummer and learn somethin from him =)

anyway.....

anyone still remember these pair of teeth? with a gap so far that can fit aeroplane inside
